William Culbertson
1905 – 1971
Born in Philadelphia and educated there at the seminary of the Reformed Episcopal Church and at Temple University, William Culbertson pastored Reformed Episcopal churches in Philadelphia and New Jersey. At age 31 his denomination elected him Bishop of the New York and Philadelphia Synod.
For twenty-three years (1948-1971), Dr. Culbertson was President of Moody Bible Institute. Under his leadership, the Institute grew steadily, increasing its day-school enrollment to over one thousand students and adding five major buildings to the campus.
Dr. Culbertson also spoke at Bible conferences around the world and served as President of the Accrediting Association of Bible Colleges. In 1971, he was appointed the school’s first chancellor. Above all, he lived in God’s Word and therefore always had a word from God.
